Vegas - the backstory (NSFW) & Begging in a Beamer

Here's the real deal Holyfield behind Vegas

Starting with this pic (I know - Tobey COULD NOT BE ANY CUTER!!!)

Backstory on this pic...

To obtain a pic like this,  one stands in line for about 20 mins and pays a really cool Vegas dude to take a good pic.  Easy, right?  Sometimes including your 4-legged best friend in everything makes things more complicated.

Dogs.  Pictures.  Yikes.  The tourists behind me didn't realize I actually can piece together a bit of German as they sprechen sie bitsched about how long we would probably take to get a good shot.

**Secret: I totally agreed.  Tobey is 1)old 2)has cancer which leads to....
3)BEYOND spoiled / lacking discipline these days**

I was a bit nervous as our turn was up.  This dog channeled his effing Lassie "I live in LA and work on set every damn day" persona out of nowhere!

He ran straight to our "mark", looked up lovingly at me as the photog snapped the shot.   I'm pretty sure Tobey winked as he dazzled the skeptical crowd with jazz fingers paws.  We got that pic on the 1st shot.

Saugen sie, German naysayers.

Which leads me to backstory #2: Beggin' in a Beamer

As we were en route to Cali via Vegas, a well-meaning woman at a gas station interrupted me scraping dollar bills together (insert tiny violin here) to pay for our next tank.

After looking up #roadtrip4tobey on her phone, she rolled her window down and asked how I had a GoFundMe Page while driving a "nice BMW"...

I would probably ask the same thing.  Here is the short story behind, Dirk - my big white German (Bavarian, to be specific)

Dirk was paid for with cash several years ago when finances were much easier for me.  Shit happens.  Now I'm broke and begging in a beamer.

If anyone wants to trade me for a less "nice" vehicle with better gas mileage, that's 4WD or for an Airstream we could live in, we're all furry ears....HOWEVER:

Tobey is half German Shepherd...Dirk is German...it kinda works.
It's also been a kick-ass, reliable ride through the mountains and the desert.  Just sayin'.

Dirk is also a CHOO CHOO train.  This is was super top secret.

I severely miscalculated the cost of driving all the way from Colorado to Santa Barbara because 1)I suck at math and 2) I just GO and figure the details out later

I found myself in Vegas with not enough money to get home.  Seriously.  I also remembered that things are things and not important.  So I took 2 of my favorite "things" to a pawn shop and sold them for enough money to get home

They were a pair of Jimmy Choos and a Jimmy Choo purse bought by a less-than-loyal ex-boyfriend

So there's that....

In a weird twist of fate, said purse was bought in Vegas on a trip where I met my soul-mate friend that became an immediate soulmate spirit human for life.

She let Tobey and I crash at her AMAZING Vegas palace, served us great wine and food and spoiled Tobey &  I absolutely rotten.  It was another reminder of how life comes full circle and our world is full of good, no - AMAZING souls.

"Sit on my incredible couch in my impeccably decorated digs while I serve your mommy fine wine and cheese???  Sure!!!!!" says Aunt Nikki.

True love.  We are so lucky.

So anyway, we just felt the need to disclose more details about our travels, the awkward (having to sell shoes and bags for gas) but more importantly the good (the Aunt Nikki's of the world, Tobey's understanding of German language and automobiles).

Lots of humor and love,
Kerry + Tobey

  1. Hi Kerry. Dan from the trail to Crater Lake again. I like your blog. You're an entertaining writer. Don't know if you saw my other comments or if you answer any, but just wanted to say hi. You're a real survivor, as you say: just go and work out the details later!! It's apparently working. Any plans to settle anywhere in particular?
