Surfing, Sobbing & A Birthday Tribute

About 36 hours after my meltdown described below...

Several years ago, I was sobbing hysterically in an Uber at 5:45 am.

Bewildered Uber Driver (BUD): Um, are you ok?!

Me: (through snot and drool that only a stage 5 meltdown can produce) Yeah-no, I don't know!

*more sobbing*

BUD:  Ok...well...where are we going today from DFW Airport?

*He is certain that I am going to answer Guantanamo Bay, given my display of emotion*

Me: Hawaii.

BUD: * Blank stare.  Crickets chirping.*

Me: I won't see my dog for 14 daaayysssss!!! *wailing*snotting*

It is an understatement to say that I am overly attached to my dog.  I am ok with that.

What I can't imagine is having to drop a child off to their 1st day of school, college or watch them take a leap not knowing how or where they'll land.

Father Daughter tasty nap, 1987

My sweet, wonderful parents put on such a brave face when Tobey and I started out for #RoadTrip4Tobey, but seeing my dad with a lump in his throat will always make me weepy.

Mama, Me, Daddy
Today is his birthday so I just want to celebrate and give thanks for such an amazing Daddy.
Happy Birthday, Grampa!  xoxo, Tobey
He did not necessarily agree with this crazy #RoadTrip4Tobey idea, yet has supported me every step of the way.  I called him broke and crying from Colorado and he calmed me down.  He insisted I use his credit card to have a hot meal and stay at a Holiday Inn instead of brave the wilderness again.

Being Southern, he of course, armed me...

Heavily...

...and fashionably.

I'm sorry for the grey (no, silver!) hairs I've added to your Jimmy Johnson hairdo.  Thank you and mama for teaching me to love all of God's creatures, especially those with 4 legs.

Thank you for maintaining a sense of humor while putting up with me.

Thank you for showing me how to stay adventuresome by riding your new motorcycle through the Texas 'burbs.

Thank you for using rakes and a trash bins to teach my niece parallel parking yesterday.

Thank you for continuing to support and love your 35 year-old little girl, even when that meant letting her go a little bit.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!  I love you!

Tobey's Gone Wild!!! XXX NSFW

Need help - he's out of control.
First I caught him making some sketchy friends at the Straight Outta Compton Mart

Next, he went to the dispensary! Just say NO, Tobey!  But the worst was yet to come...

He asked to add watching "live girls dancing" to his bucket list. The answer is no.

To help contribute to Tobey's rehab fund (ok, his CareCredit bills from multiple cancer treatment surgeries) and to see more innocent pictures of this sweet boy, visit www.gofundme.com/tobeyvscancer

Hoosier Daddy?!

Mission to dominate Hoosier Pass accomplished!

The first attempt we only made to these trees before the elevation kicked me in the nads

But today I felt better so we kept going

She kept forcing me to take selfies with her, which is unfortunate because she's terrible at it.

Off to take a tasty mountain nap.

Vegas - the backstory (NSFW) & Begging in a Beamer

Here's the real deal Holyfield behind Vegas

Starting with this pic (I know - Tobey COULD NOT BE ANY CUTER!!!)

Backstory on this pic...

To obtain a pic like this,  one stands in line for about 20 mins and pays a really cool Vegas dude to take a good pic.  Easy, right?  Sometimes including your 4-legged best friend in everything makes things more complicated.

Dogs.  Pictures.  Yikes.  The tourists behind me didn't realize I actually can piece together a bit of German as they sprechen sie bitsched about how long we would probably take to get a good shot.

**Secret: I totally agreed.  Tobey is 1)old 2)has cancer which leads to....
3)BEYOND spoiled / lacking discipline these days**

I was a bit nervous as our turn was up.  This dog channeled his effing Lassie "I live in LA and work on set every damn day" persona out of nowhere!

He ran straight to our "mark", looked up lovingly at me as the photog snapped the shot.   I'm pretty sure Tobey winked as he dazzled the skeptical crowd with jazz fingers paws.  We got that pic on the 1st shot.

Saugen sie, German naysayers.

Which leads me to backstory #2: Beggin' in a Beamer

As we were en route to Cali via Vegas, a well-meaning woman at a gas station interrupted me scraping dollar bills together (insert tiny violin here) to pay for our next tank.

After looking up #roadtrip4tobey on her phone, she rolled her window down and asked how I had a GoFundMe Page while driving a "nice BMW"...

I would probably ask the same thing.  Here is the short story behind, Dirk - my big white German (Bavarian, to be specific)

Dirk was paid for with cash several years ago when finances were much easier for me.  Shit happens.  Now I'm broke and begging in a beamer.

If anyone wants to trade me for a less "nice" vehicle with better gas mileage, that's 4WD or for an Airstream we could live in, we're all furry ears....HOWEVER:

Tobey is half German Shepherd...Dirk is German...it kinda works.
It's also been a kick-ass, reliable ride through the mountains and the desert.  Just sayin'.

Dirk is also a CHOO CHOO train.  This is was super top secret.

I severely miscalculated the cost of driving all the way from Colorado to Santa Barbara because 1)I suck at math and 2) I just GO and figure the details out later

I found myself in Vegas with not enough money to get home.  Seriously.  I also remembered that things are things and not important.  So I took 2 of my favorite "things" to a pawn shop and sold them for enough money to get home

They were a pair of Jimmy Choos and a Jimmy Choo purse bought by a less-than-loyal ex-boyfriend

So there's that....

In a weird twist of fate, said purse was bought in Vegas on a trip where I met my soul-mate friend that became an immediate soulmate spirit human for life.

She let Tobey and I crash at her AMAZING Vegas palace, served us great wine and food and spoiled Tobey &  I absolutely rotten.  It was another reminder of how life comes full circle and our world is full of good, no - AMAZING souls.

"Sit on my incredible couch in my impeccably decorated digs while I serve your mommy fine wine and cheese???  Sure!!!!!" says Aunt Nikki.

True love.  We are so lucky.

So anyway, we just felt the need to disclose more details about our travels, the awkward (having to sell shoes and bags for gas) but more importantly the good (the Aunt Nikki's of the world, Tobey's understanding of German language and automobiles).

Lots of humor and love,
Kerry + Tobey

First trip to the ocean - Santa Barbara!

Mommy caught my first sniff of ocean air - delicious smell of salt & fish

Uncle Masoud was kind enough to let us stay at his pad - I felt like Jay-Z....actually, cooler.

Uncle Masoud and our friend Curtis were kind enough to have the Santa Barbara Food + Wine folks make a wine glass for me!  #roadtrip4tobey has  officially gone coastal!

Mommy & I enjoying wine and good company on the rooftop deck under the stars

My 1st time on sand!

Running with my mommy on to this super giant pool-lake thing with waves!

Made a new friend and shared my tennis ball with Finley

"Oh my gawd, Mom - this is awesome!!!"

"Uncle Masoud, throw the sandy tennis ball, pleeeaaaase!"

Uncle Masoud + Tobey = buds for life

DOG tired...fo' real

Curtis and Uncle Masoud at Sambo's (I'm sitting under Uncle Masoud)

PUP-parazzi...as usual.  Part of being ridiculously good looking

Uncle Masoud, Mommy & Curtis at Toma, the best damned restaurant mommy's ever been to.  Food, staff & company were phenomenal - a "must" in Santa Barbara!

Mom looks at stars while I nap - this beats the crap outta Texas heat

It made mom get all weird and shout some Native Santa Barbarian chant...I think it may have been the wine...

2 asshole sharks attacked Mick Fanning today.
Mom cancelled her surfboard rental and I'm on shark patrol!

Mommy says "SORRY" but we have to leave...

Where are we going next?!

This has been so awesome - I feel like a puppy again and my mom is back to smiling all of the time!

Love, Tobey
